Even before the HC twins, Dodge was crazy

I mean, yes, there was the Viper, but does anybody else remember the Dodge Sidewinder concept shown at SEMA?

Keep in mind, this was in 1997, and these figures were bonkers.

Kinja'd!!!

Essentially the twisted idea of a futuristic Dakota convertible, it had a front-mounted Dodge Viper GTS-R 8L V10 engine, sending 640hp to the rear wheels. It also had 530lb-ft of torque. The car/truck thing could hit 0.60 in 3.9s, and propel to a top speed of 170mph. Now, keep in mind, this was almost 20 years ago. Even today, those are some pretty wicked 0-60 claims for a truck. The one negative I see is a 4-speed auto, which would suck. I wish it would've been a true production vehicle though. Even in the 90s, Dodge was certifiably nuts, and I love it.

That nose, that's all kind of ugly.

that is still impressive. Even though cars today have more power, they aren't much faster.

Yeah, it kind of is. The production Dakota and Durango that picked up that design language wear it better, but I can't hate it, just because of how out there it is, especially in that color.

"...this was almost 20 years ago..."

Oh shit.

Also, it looks like a Ram and a Prowler had a baby that would end up fighting with the SSR.

I do kind of see some SSR ironic precursor there, didn't notice that. And yeah, I kinda couldn't believe that it had been nearly 20 years myself.

It's mostly the rear fender that does it for me, as well as looking completely stupid.

Yeah they have. In the 60s and 70s, you had the 426 HEMI cars, in the 80s, you had the Omni GLH-S, in the 90s, this, and the Viper, the 2000s had the ME-412 concept, and the 2010s, well, we know all too well what they are.

Even in 1955 they had what was probably the most powerful car on sale, and before that there was the Airflow...

Wasn't this the one with the tires that left flames when you laid down rubber?

I remember wanting the Sidewinder so bad when I saw it (keep in mind I had just graduated high school so at the time it looked awesome.)

And from this photo it does sort of look pit viper-ish up front.

Yup, Dodge Copperhead. Poor driver's Viper.
